About the Rocket

The Rocket Festival is a three day festival of music, performance and visual arts inspired by British festivals such as Shambala, Bestival and Glastonbury and set in the sun-drenched mountains of the South of Spain.

amaparanoia main stage 2005The Rocket was conceived as a melting-pot of UK alternative festival culture with the Spanish fiesta spirit set in a beautiful rural location near Granada in the heart of Andalucia. The festival is unique because it has the anarchic, euphoric atmosphere of a free festival but with internationally renowned acts and the latest equipment and installations. Much more than just a concert, the Rocket is a three day celebration of life through music performance and art; a whirlwind weekend of delicious assaults on all the senses.

Los DelinquentesThe 2008 festival was the third edition and attracted 4000 festival goers from Spain, the UK and the rest of Europe.
Entertainment at the Rocket is an eclectic mix of live music, DJs and electronic live acts, circus and sculpture. The headline music acts for 2008 were - from the UK – Coldcut, Pendulum, The Nextmen and Evil Nine – and from Spain – Muchachito Bombo Infierno, Los Delinqüentes and the Pinker Tones.

main_stage_eveThe weather in Andalucia in May is a delightful combination of hot and sunny during the day (but not too hot) and warm and balmy at night. Like most Spanish events most of the action takes place at night. As well as the main stage there will be four themed dance areas hosting DJs and live acts from all over Europe.

car hengeThe Rocket devotes a lot of energy and resources into look and the feel of the festival through décor and art installations. Large scale sculptures from recycled materials and scrap vehicles made by Wrekon a collective based in Italy including members of the Mutoid Waste Company, flags and projections create an other-worldly environment where festival goers can transcend the humdrum of daily life.

The festival attracts a large number of young families and children are well catered for in the Kids Field alongside the Natural Living area which provides a calm and tranquil space for holistic therapies, yoga and meditation workshops and more.

The proceeds of the festival each year will be ploughed back into improving the quality of entertainment of all varieties on offer at the festival while supporting the work of the crew and artists. entertainment and the physical and spiritual well-being of our festival-goers and
crew as the highest priorities of all.
